Who is Cadenza?
Cadenza is comprised of 2 experienced musicians of varied musical backgrounds who came together 5 years ago as part of a local club band. Happy as they were making people dance long into the night they felt that their talents were being under utilised. So began a journey into the unknown, beginning with unusual time signatures (one day that project might get completed) and progressing through theme music for film & TV to this, finished work - Christmas Presents & Future Past, ancient Christmas Carols given a modern twist.
Brian Gresham - Keyboards & Programming Brian was classically trained as a pianist at Hertfordshire School of Music, studying Bartok and Mussorgsky by day whilst playing in a blues band ('Hot Cottage') in the evenings. At college in the West Midlands he developed a love of jazz-rock, composing for and playing in 'Freefall' for no money whatsoever! Several years co-writing for and playing in two Midlands-based bands followed ('The Mick Donegan Band' and 'Safari'). The advent of family coincided with a retreat into songwriting with a four-track tape machine and assorted electronic aids ('Kilroy'), and an increasing passion for electronic music. Currently playing keyboards with Buxton band 'Plan B', Brian continues to pursue a wide variety of musical tastes and interests. Forever the 'piano-man' his ability to convert ideas in his head quickly into something more 'solid' on the keyboard has been of inestimable value countless times. |
Adrian Sherwood - Bass & Digital Guitar, Keyboards, Digital Horn & ProgrammingAdrian had only a meagre amount of musical education, learning most from his choirmaster in the local church choir (thanks P.G.I.Green!). After an abortive attempt to learn the trumpet, and being tall for his age with big hands, his music teacher at school thrust a double bass in front of him saying it suited him! A bass guitar quickly followed opening many doors into local bands. At the end of the 70's he briefly had a spell as the bass guitarist in a semi-pro band ('Vintage') whose forte was to recreate the music of 'The Shadows'. An interest in computer music blossomed with the purchase of a Commodore 64 in the early 80's. His band playing days continue as the bass guitarist in 'Plan B' alongside Brian. His technical ability with rhythmic structure as well as fragile software & hardware has been tested to the full in this project. |
